Since the beginning of mankind there's been ways of communicating with one another. Media has been around for just as long, only the medium in how the information is given, has changed. New media is a vaguely defined, partly because mediums for media are forever changing. I guess if you think about it, technically when the caveman drew pictures on the walls of caves it was the first form of media. The caveman, lets call him Bob, drew those pictures to keep record of something he would consider worthy of keeping record. Bob may have drew those pictures for entertainment, but when he moved out and another family of cavemen move in, he transmitted the images to the other family. Ways of communicating only improved with time. We've come along way from handwritten documents to the printing press to the instant internet media.
